Legal experts say Dr. Caitlin Bernard’s case has no clear precedent in Indiana, meaning an appeal could be the first of its kind.

Two victims and a victim’s family member requested $700,000 each through a tort claim notice sent to the city in October.

Brandon Bernard was executed on Thursday night at the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana, making him the ninth federal execution this year.
